KITES

Manuska is a young girl born into the kite-making community of Khambhat, a humble rural village in India that for has generations made the millions of paper kites for Uttarayan, the world’s largest kite festival.

Told through the candid voices of Manuska and her friends, this documentary is for children of all cultures, with the familiar joy of a kite a bridge across boundaries of language and geography.

Set against the unbelievable visual spectacle of an entire population at play, the film explores how community and tradition act as structures of support for this generation who will live into the unknown future of a rapidly changing world, and the importance of art, creativity and empathy in shaping this future.
