SURRY HILLS LIBRARY SIGNAGE

Architectural signage and wayfinding
Surry Hills Library and Community Centre

In collaboration with Andrew van der Westhuyzen
Commissioned by the City of Sydney

The typographic treatment pays homage to an angled glass wall that is an important architectural feature of the building. The signage turns to address the viewer, the community for whom the centre was built, with a playful tilt of the head. A quality of permanence creates is achieved by integrating the materials of the building into the signage itself, this permanence contributes to the connection and ownership of the community it serves, this is and will remain a community centre.
